This afternoon, the Youth Orchestras of Lubbock hosted the annual YOL Concerto Competition at the First Christian Church in Lubbock. The talent our youth musicians displayed was excellent. Every performer was poised and shined amid the high points of their respective performances. Thank you all for participating and to the parents who supported these students throughout the Concerto Competition process. We would be honored to have any of these talented students perform as soloist for our Spring Concert, but of course there can only be one winner.
In keeping with tradition, we will only release the top two ranking musicians in the competition.
First place: Sami Sharif
Runner up: Alex Murphy
As part of the honor for placing in the competition, the winner will be involved in Spring Concert promotions and featured on the Spring Concert poster. Any of the concerto participants may also be invited to perform their concerto piece in special performances throughout the winter season.
The judges for today’s competition were: Eric Fried of Texas Tech University and Dr. Sandra Mosteller of Wayland Baptist University. We would like to recognize them and thank them. We would also like to thank the staff of the First Christian Church who graciously hosted the event.
Please note: Comment sheets will be emailed to the individual students by Dr. Williams following the competition.
