All YOL rehearsals, concerts, and activities will follow the safety guidelines and protocols recommended by the CDC and LISD, including (but not limited to): symptom and temperature checks, mask requirements, social distancing, hand-washing, and disinfecting of surfaces.

YOL will be rehearsing at the LHUCA (The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts) and The Legacy Event Center this Spring. These sites have been chosen based on being able to provide a safe environment with plenty of room for social distancing even at lower Covid-19 occupancy levels and appropriate disinfection protocols. These facilities are closed to the public on Sundays, therefore there will only be individuals associated with YOL and the necessary LHUCA and The Legacy Event Center staff in the building during YOL rehearsals.

Students must bring a music stand to all rehearsals.

Prelude String Orchestra: Designed for beginning to intermediate string players, this orchestra serves musicians in their first few years of development by fine-tuning their performance technique in order to prepare them for participation in the YOL Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras. There is no lower age limit for this orchestra, however the student must be able to read music and be attentive for rehearsals.

Philharmonic Orchestra: Designed for the intermediate to advanced string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players. This is a full orchestra, playing exciting and innovative repertoire, while receiving the necessary intensive training designed to prepare them for membership in the YOL Symphony Orchestra.

Symphony Orchestra: Designed for the more advanced players on string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Students are chosen on the basis of an annual audition that includes excerpts from the standard orchestral repertoire. The Symphony Orchestra performs music drawn from the standard professional concert literature as well as newly composed works. The orchestra (in addition to the two major concerts per year) is invited to participate (along with alumni and area professional musicians) in the annual Fourth of July Fireworks Concert and holds an annual concerto competition for its members. The YOL Concerto Competition winner performs with the orchestra on the Spring concert.
